Filtering Your Own Blog Comments in Top Commentators
Jul 8th, 2007 by Lewis 8 Comments
I’d like to send a quick thanks to cooliojones for a recent comment he made on my site. Cooliojones’ comment was about filtering my own name from the Top Commentators list in my sidebar and said:
Hey Lewis!! I see you spreading all over the internet as well! How you gonna have yourself listed as a top commentator on your own site!! Filter that out and let one of your other viewers get some love too!
I have been replying to postings from readers as soon as I am able but my own Lewis Empire name then gets posted on the Top Commentators list. I knew it shouldn’t be there but didn’t see the significance of filtering when I first installed the Wordpress plugin. Now I do!
To remove yourself from your own list, simply go to your Plugins list in Wordpress and click on ‘Edit’ for the Top Commentators plugin. Next scroll down to where it says: “filter_users” => “Administrator, admin”, //commma seperated list of users (”nate, jeff, etc”). and add your name to the list. Once I was finished it looked like this: “filter_users” => “Administrator, admin,Lewis Empire”, //commma seperated list of users (”nate, jeff, etc”).
(so I can stay up late and keep writing)

Lewis as you explain, this is a very easy process, I did mine in a couple mins. Great explanation for the non technical people out there.
Hey Lewis,
After reading through your blog I enjoyed your article on the wealthy barber and your tips to help bloggers make their blogs better. It was an interesting read; the thing I liked best was that I can completely relate to your situation in having credit card debt, I‘ve just recently read the book and it was great however it really does seem difficult sometimes to save the 10% because it’s not automated yet, grr. I have always had interest in money management and the internet and it looks to me like you have quite a bit of knowledge in both areas. I too have a blog, not as nice as yours, but it is still in the works. Through viewing your site, one can tell you have put a lot of time into making your blog successful. Currently, I am creating a blogger plug-in that will help our industry generate more essential feedback from visitors. This feedback will allow you to truly see what your audience is interested in and you can make changes accordingly. We are going to open up the beta to a few bloggers, would you be interested in being able to see more clearly about what your visitors want?
Thanks Lewis please let me know what I can do to help!
Regards,
Wes
Yes you are right
Let’s see…it only took me about 56 years and 17 more editions of Harry Potter before I added my comment here!
I see you made the changes, and thanks for the shoutout!
I meant to say this in your other post, but the screen is still blank after a comment is posted. I know you revived your website from that heart attack (clear!) just a while ago, but it happened to me every time I left a comment here moments ago. I’m using Firefox and Windows Vista if that helps.
I thought that this was fixed and I can’t re-create the problem! I’ll keep looking into it and try something else…Thanks for the comment Coolio.
