Top Ten Comments That Work In Any Situation
Jul 31st, 2007 by Lewis 17 Comments
As I posted earlier in July, (What Type of Post Needs a Comment?) I feel that a blogger should create their site to both develop a rapport with the readers and offer information that will help them reach their goals.
More and more, I have been reading comments on other sites that add little or no value to the overall culture of the blog. I’m guessing that many of these comments are part of a larger strategy to gain valuable linkbacks from high page ranked sites and possibly attract direct referral visits as well. Please don’t get me wrong, I think this is an excellent strategy for increasing your readership; however, please spend the extra 5 seconds and make a comment that’s worth while!
For those people who refuse to take my advice, I’m committed to helping you on your goals as well. I have scoured the blogging world and found my Top Ten Comments that can be used for any situation. Regardless of the topic, these classics can be posted without any need to even read the original post!
So without further adieu, here they are:
- Wow, that’s impressive!
- Funny…(or Not Funny…)
- Great Post!
- Good job! Keep it up!
- Great stuff!
- This is exactly what I was looking for.
- I don’t agree with you on this one.
- How much money have you made with this idea?
- Where can I find more information about this?
- I see what you mean now.
I welcome any new BS comments that aren’t listed here (as a comment). If nothing else, let me know what you think about commenting!
As a second section for this post, I’ve learned something from the commenting process as well. I believe that when you write an intelligent, passionate or informative comment, you will significantly increase the number of people visiting your site in return.
Recently, I was reading an article by John Chow (The Progressive Income Tax Is Not Progress) and found a number of comments by Dan C. Reinert over at dcrblogs.com. His comments were very well informed, well written and he obviously spent time and energy to add value to the discussion. Needless to say, I’ve visited his site had look forward to signing up for his RSS feed when it’s available.

Awesome post Dude!
Mike
Even though it adds a comment for the author im not sure if they would prefer to go without
It would be interesting to know what the general opinion is out there. I like to see comments that ad value (as you’ve already read) but will always like to know that people are reading and appreciate my work.
I concur!

My name is money-blogging.com and I approve this post.
Welcome to the site and for the comment! This comment’s very general and really could work with a wide range of posts. Excellent work!
I see what you mean now!
All jokes aside, they are common and kind of spammy especially in those blogs which have the nofollow tag disabled. People just want to post something in order to get a linkback.
Can you explain more on the nofollow tag? To be quite honest I was quite anxious to get indexed by google. I don’t think Lew minds, now we are friends. I even threw up a link to his site from my “omgigetsomuchtrafficadayblog” I bet Lew might even write an article on how to get indexed by google, fast! Oh and I was mad at Lew, cause he stole my name! There can be only one!! (lewis)
One I see a lot is “Nice Blog!”
Or, “you’re such an inspiration!”
I wonder if some of the commentators have scripts that automatically generate generic comments and post them for them.
Hey, that’s me! Wow! People are going to think I’m smart or something.
Great post, and I’m not just saying that because you mentioned me. I don’t think it’s always necessary to write a lengthy comment. I think it is sometimes helpful just to provide a short nod of agreement (or disagreement) to give some measure of feedback to the blogger.
That said, though, it’s generally easy to spot the people that are commenting to participate in the discussion and the people that are just looking for an excuse to get their blog or website link in. Not that the people participating in the discussion don’t want a link too, but at least they are providing something of value in exchange.
I see what you mean now. And I love cows.
